What does it mean to be NSF Certified for Sport®
When it comes to quality and safety certifications for dietary supplements, NSF International is considered the gold standard. NSF International is the leading accredited third-party certifier of dietary supplements, functional foods and dietary supplement raw ingredients (ANSI-Accredited Product Certification Body - Accreditation #0216).
The NSF Certified for Sport® certification program helps athletes, coaches and trainers make more informed decisions when choosing sports supplements. The program is recognized by the NFL®, NFL Players Association®, MLB®, MLB® Players Association, PGA®, LPGA® and Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports®.
Certified supplements must meet rigorous standards that include comprehensive lab testing and extensive evaluation of the manufacturing process to ensure contaminated substances or hidden ingredients are not added to a product.

Why were anchovy and sardine removed from the “Contains” allergen statement for Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack?
The marine triglyceride concentrate used in Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack is highly refined, a process that removes the proteins responsible for fish allergies.
Under guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, highly refined oils are not considered major food allergens because allergenic proteins are removed during processing. For this reason, anchovy and sardine are not required to appear in the allergen “Contains” statement, even though they may be used as source fish for the refined oil.
Why are anchovy and sardine still listed in the ingredients for Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack if they are not in the allergen statement?
Anchovy and sardine are listed in the ingredient description because they are source fish used to produce the marine triglyceride concentrate used in Klean Omega.
Although these fish may be used as raw material sources, the refining process removes the allergenic proteins. Because of this, FDA labeling regulations do not require anchovy or sardine to be listed in the allergen “Contains” statement.
Why does the allergen statement now say “Contains: Fish (Tilapia)” for Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack?
The allergen statement lists fish (tilapia) because tilapia-derived materials are used in the softgel capsule of Klean Omega and are not highly refined in the same way as the marine triglyceride concentrate.
Since tilapia-derived ingredients still contain fish proteins, they must be declared in the allergen statement in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration allergen labeling requirements.
Why does mackerel now appear on the product label for Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack?
Mackerel now appears on the ingredient list to more accurately reflect the fish species that may be used as sources for the marine triglyceride concentrate in Klean Omega.
This update provides greater transparency about ingredient sourcing, even though the refining process removes allergenic proteins from the oil.
Has the formula of Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack changed?
The omega-3 ingredient used in Klean Omega remains the same high-quality marine triglyceride concentrate. The recent update primarily reflects labeling clarification and ingredient sourcing transparency, rather than a change to the omega-3 formulation itself.
Is Klean Omega offered in the Klean Athlete Sport Pack appropriate for individuals with fish allergies?
Individuals with fish allergies should consult their healthcare provider before using fish-derived supplements, including Klean Omega.
Although the marine triglyceride concentrate is highly refined and does not contain allergenic fish proteins, the product still contains fish-derived ingredients (including tilapia) and therefore may not be appropriate for individuals with severe fish allergies. Please note that the softgel contains fish ingredients from tilapia, which are separate from the highly refined omega-3 oil.
